The Skinny On Fat

I am going to make this easy on you.

This will be the simple version on fat. Please share with anyone you know, so they can also get the skinny on fat.

I have been studying fat for a few years now.  As some of you know, I use to weight 260 pounds.  Part of my foundation in losing that weight was, eat more fat and get skinny.  But I had to learn which fats to eat.  You can’t eat french fries and think you’re going to lose weight. You can’t eat anything from a box and think you are going to improve your health.  Getting healthy is actually pretty simple if you can get the rules simplified.

It’s easy to separate the fats into three categories: Evil Fats, Bad Fats, and Good Fats, this is according to Dr. Mark Hyman.

Evil Fats are your trans fats like margarine, shortening, and hydrogenated fats. The government has finally said these are harmful and you should not eat them but they are in a long phase-out period, so be aware.

Bad Fats are your Omega 6’s these are your soybean, corn, safflower oils. We eat 18 billion pounds of soybean oil a year in the US.  These oils can be found in your salad dressings and your baked products. You need to eat these sparingly and by that I mean once or twice a month.  That means put down the twinkies and pie. Check your salad dressing ingredients too.  I use salsa, or lemon juice from real lemons, or make my own.

Good Fats are your Omega 3’s and these are the monounsaturated  fats you want to eat a lot of, every single day!  These are olives and olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds, all your seed and nut butters, hemp seed, flax seed, chia seed, walnuts, just to name a few. Omega 3 fats regulate so much in the human body.  They control inflammation, they affect your neurotransmitters, they affect your mood, they affect your gut, they affect every single function in the body. They prevent heart disease, cancer, dementia, type 2 diabetes, they help with your skin and nails. 90% of American’s , when tested, are deficient in Omega 3’s.

Dr. Mark Hyman says that the saturated fats are still controversial but he recommends you eat plenty of them in a week. And I would say every day eat some saturated fat.  Those fats are found in coconut oil, coconut butter, grass-fed beef and lamb, organically and sustainably raised chicken and wild fish (wild fish contain the best Omega 3’s).This is my advice on butte If it isn’t made from pastured fed cows do not eat it.

This is my advice on butter, don’t eat it unless is it from pastured cows or organically fed cows. Period.

That’s it. Simple right?

We MUST change our paradigm when it comes to fats. They are no longer considered bad.  I know that statement goes against everything we’ve been told in the last 30 years. Try it, you’ll see.

I suggest reading Dr. Mark Hyman’s NEW book Eat Fat, Get Thin.  It really is part of the reason why I was able to lose over 100 pounds and keep it off.  He cites all the studies that have been done in the last 40 years that proves his title.  We have to stop being afraid to eat the right  fats.

So begin to shift your food choices to the more healthy fats.  Get rid of the bad fats and eat plenty of the good fats.
